Gold Key Magnus Robot Fighter #1, 2, 3, 4 & 64 Valiant N/M 9.4-9.6 While DC and Marvel re-introduced many of their Golden Age characters to a new audience in the 1960’s, Gold Key created an all-new character with a concept of a future world in which robots are trying to enslave mankind. Magnus Robot Fighter lasted 6 years being published quarterly. Legendary artist Russ Manning helmed the first 21 issues and assisted with the final 7. Written by Mike Royer, #28 was the last original story until Valiant Comics revived Magnus in 1991. It was a gamble -- But the deliberately retro sci-fi look scored big with readers, and Valliant’s first Super Hero comic book Magnus #1 was a big hit and flourished for another 5 years. Up for auction we are offering the first Magnus saga from 1991 “The Steel Nation Part 1 through 4. These first 4 issues combine for 113-page masterpiece retelling the origin of the robot fighter through flashbacks as Magnus learns of the existence of a nation of freewill robots in North Am, and ponders whether or not they are true enemies. However, circumstances take the decision out of his hands and Magnus must find a way to save all of North AM from destruction.
