Hi. You are bidding on a vintage brass and iron padlock. I am told this is what is called a story lock because of its shape compared to a common object. The lock has two patent dates, one is 1898 and the other is 1899. Rare! Antique iron and brass lock. MAIL POUCH Shaped like a mail pouch. MarkedRUSSELL & ERWIN MFG CO NEW BRITAIN. CONN. USA. Back side has pat. datesPAT NOV. 22, 98PAT JAN 31.99. There is also a "9" The body is iron , the tabs and loop are brass. Great shape!Some light minumal wear! Guaranteed old. The lock has a 9 on the backside on the loop, but I don't know what the meaning of that is. It is very tight in regards to its body and all the seams seem to be extremely tight and nice. There is a bit of wear at the tab on the front to the right of the key hole. Please e-mail with specific questions before bidding. Buyer pays actual priority shipping with insurance extra.
