Large Sarreguemines Majolica / Barbotine character jug depicting Paul Kruger (1825 - 1904), a prominent Boer resistance leader and president of the South African Republic. Paul Kruger was known as the "father of the Afrikaner nation." Barbotine is a colorful French faience decorated in relief made between 1870 and 1930. Barbotine is also a word used to refer to French Majolica. The Sarreguemines manufacture was at one time referred to as the French Wedgewood for its fine quality and classic decoration. In very good condition, with no chips, cracks, hairlines nor restorations, only crackle consistent with age. Please ask questions, request additional photos and shipping costs prior to bidding.
