Malachite Polished "Slab" specimen - Location: ShavacrestaÂ¸ Zaire. we have a polished slab of Malachite. The slice came from a larger mammilary specimen of malachite and was cut horizontally through the concentrically formed shells of malachite. The result is a remarkable "cross-section" pattern clearly showing the concentric layers of the malachite. The mammilary malachite was originally formed by the multiple-deposition of layers of malachite that were deposited one upon the other in concentric form. The concentric ring pattern is similar to the growth rings of trees with each representing a separate stage of growth in the mass. This is a very beautiful and aesthetic display specimen. It couldÂ¸ of courseÂ¸ be used for lapidary purposes to make cabochons etc.Â¸ howeverÂ¸ I think that it is too beautiful the way it is to waste on jewelry.
