1974 - Command and Control South - MACVUS Special Forces Ban me Thout MACV - SOG - Command and Control South US Special Forces, ban Me Thuot. By the time this map was printed, the United States had officially left South Vietnam. In practice, too, they were effectively gone from the war with only small elements of ASA and Special Forces Elements remaining in advisor capacities and attempting to locate and release POW's from Communist captivity. Before 1972, this area was the centre of the US Sepcial Forces, MACV-SOG's Command and Control South, the smallest of the CC centres. Command and Control South only came into been (officially) in late 1967 when politicial permission to commence operations inside Cambodia was given by the White House. Out of Ban Me Thout, located in a pre-dominantly Viet Cong Controlled area of South Vietnam, Recon Team, Slam Companies and the Agresseive and Feared, Hatchet Forces operated until Command and Control South was shut down in April of 1972.
