Ok – I admit it – I do not know the real purpose of this unmarked Marcrest item and am unable to find another one like it. Is it a casserole? Is it a soup tureen? Or is it something else. The shape is opposite of most casseroles by Marcrest, which are wider at the opening than the bottom. This Marcrest item is just the opposite – wider at the bottom than at the opening. Marshall-Burns retail chain gave the name Marcrest to a line of items. They then contracted with Hull, Western Stoneware and other pottery companies to produce the pieces. Western Stoneware and Hull were under contract to use the same logo. Other companies were not required to use the Marcrest mark, but the Marcrest symbol did appear on the boxes. The pattern on this piece is called Pennsylvania Dutch in Colorado Brown. There are two missed color spots, which happened during production and a few of the normal glaze bumps or glaze pops. There is no post-production damage of any kind – no nicks, chips, cracks or scratches. It appears to have never been used, or certainly used very little. Outside diameter of the opening is 6 1/2”, the outside diameter of the bottom dry ring is 5 7/8”, the width at the widest part is 8 1/4”, height without lid is 3”, and height with lid is 4 1/4”. Capacity: 48 oz. or 1 1/2 Qts. Shipping costs are based on package weight from zip code read more
