WWI medal group to Sergeant Harry E. Campbell: engraved and numbered US Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal with engraved 2nd Enlistment bar,and WWI Victory Medal. Campbell enlisted on 22 December 1913, served with the Marine Expeditionary Forces on board the USS Jupiter off the West Coast of Mexico in 1914; served with the 118th Company, Marine Barracks, Naval Station Pearl Harbor, Territory of Hawaii during WWI; extended his enlistment until 1920; he was awarded his first GCM and renlisted in November 1920, served on recruiting duty in Iowa and with the Marine Detachment, Great Lakes Naval Training Station. He was discharged on 8 November 1922 and was awarded a GCM bar. He reenlisted, served on Guam and was in San Diego in 1925 when he requested transfer to the Fleet Marine Corps Reserve so he could get married and buy a house! (Sounds like the phrase "Yes Dear" was being used with much frequency.). His request was granted and he served the next four years with the 3rd Regiment, USMCR in California. Though it would appear that Campbell was eligible for the Mexican Service Medal (his 1914 expeditionary service is noted in his Service Record Book), I can find no evidence that he was ever awarded that medal. At least t is no notation anyw within his service records. The USS Jupiter is listed in the US Navy award manual as one of the ships whose personnel qualified for the Mexican Campaign Medal for the period during which Cambell was aboard. Both the GCM and bar are officially hand engraved and dated. The ribbons of both medals are worn and the GCM ribbon has separated partially from the rifle hanger but remains attached. Interesting little group and early Good Conduct Medals with engraved re-enlistment bars are tough to find. I accept PayPal for immediate shipment. Buyer pays $5.00 for confirmed Priority Mail. The stated shipping cost is for domestic mailing only. Foreign shipping additional cost.
