THE MARINER'S CHRONICLE Volume IV only by Archibald Duncan published in 1806 by James Humphreys, Philadelphia This is a hardback book with leather cover, 336 pages, 7 1/8" by 4 3/8", in fair/good condition . This is Volume IV only, from what was originally a set of four volumes. The full subtitle reads: "Being a collection of the most interesting Narratives of Shipwrecks, Fires, Famines, and other Calamities incident to a Life of Maritime Enterprise; with authentic Particulars of the extraordinary Adventures and Sufferings of the Crews, their Reception and Treatment on distant Shores; and a concise Description of the Country, Customs, and Manners of the Inhabitants; Including an Account of the Deliverance of the Survivors." There is a full page illustration at the beginning of the book ("The Wreck of the Cumberland Packet"), and a two page table of contents. The book is in fairly good shape, but with definite wear to the cover, and several defects to the pages (particularly the first dozen or so pages), including moderate browning and minor foxing. The book does not lay completely flat. For the most part, the pages are still securely bound (see below for more info on the pages). This is a very old book that can still actually be read if handled with reasonable care; it is not one of those books that is flaking and in danger read more
