MARKET ST PORTSMOUTH OH 1907 FLOOD SCENE POSTCARD Flood damage scene postcard. We believe this may have been flood of Jan 21, 1907 in Portsmouth, Ohio. Posted to Mr. Neill Vollmer, Denver, Colo. then forwarded to Ft. Worth, Touraine Hotel, Tex. Denver and Portsmouth Feb 1907 cancellations. Undivided back. What a dramatic flood scene! The look on the boys face in the canoe. The man next to him (his father), seems to be looking right at the photographer and is rather amused. Then the folks getting ready to load a large trunk from the dingy called the "Chesapeake" into the horse drawn wagon for evacuation to the larger boat. It's really neat to study the detail in this one!Reference to Market St. in message in right margin. Second Hand Store (with J.N. Raini ? below) on sign in front of row of buildings on left. H.P. Wingo lettering on row boat to the left. Partial lettering visible on riverboat (Chesapeake?) and W.(?) K. Patterson Book Binding (124 W. ?) advertising sign on front. Sign visible for "The Elk Cafe" on the building to the right with "Liquors" to the right of that.Worn corners and edges with cancellation "circles" on front.
