Mary Magdelan by Anderson Johnson. 24 x 36 framed to 26 1/2 x 38 1/2. Paint on cardboard. Signed in lower left corner. Also has the words Mary Magdalene written across the top. It has a hole in the top middle w the artist had it hanging but we have framed the piece. Nice large piece. Anderson Johnson became a street preacher at the age of eight and spent most of his life preaching in churches and on street corners throughout America. In the early 1970's he returned to his native Virginia w he conducted lively church services to a small gathering of devotees at his Faith Mission Church every Sunday. The Faith Mission was decorated from floor to ceiling with portraits and visionary images painted by Rev. Johnson. In 1995 the mission was condemned and Rev Johnson moved to an apartment w he continued to paint any flat surface he could find with housepaint. Rev Johnson passed away in 1998.
