Masada, Lot of 2 State Medals, 1965, Silver 59mm & Bronze 45mm. Silver medal is 115 gm, 935 fine., 1,814 minted. This is where 960 fighters and their families made their last stand against the Romans for several years following the destruction of the Temple in 70 CE. Before they committed suicide rather than being enslaved by the Romans, their leader Elazar Ben Yair proclaimed "We shall remain free men," and these words are inscribed on the medal. Uncirculated.
