This is a superb and important Founders Jewel for The Sanctuary Lodge no 3051.The lodge was founded in 1904, the lodge meets at Mark Masons Hall, 86 St James Street ,London. The lodge was set up for ministers of religion. It was documented that the lodge was founded especially for members of Convocation and the Houses of Layman, the Clergy, and officers of religious societies. The jewel is in excellent condition and has not been touched or cleaned. The ribbon is faded and grubby ,as can be expected for a jewel of this age. The jewel was made by C.Weeden & Sons London. It is hallmarked silver London 1904 . The jewel has the emblem of a dove with olive branch on the ribbon , which symbolises the jewel was for the founding Senior Deacon. The enamelling on the jewel depicts I believe a monk on the stairs of a monastery,in the background ,you can see stained glass windows. The artwork on the enamelling is delighful. The jewel comes in a Spencer & Co box and whilst this is not its original box ,you can see that the jewel has been there for a long time. Upon further research I have been informed that the founding Senior Deacon for the lodge was a high ranking Freemason, V.W.Bro The Rev Sir Borradaile Savory, BART ,MA, P.G.Chap. On the 24th April 1901 he was appointed as a Grand Lodge officer and was invested as Grand Chaplain. He attended read more
