Arturo Toscanini (1867-1957). Eminent Italian conductor, widely considered the greatest of all time, who was renowned for his brilliant intensity; his relentless perfectionism; his phenomenal ear for orchestral detail and sonority; and his photographic memory, which lent him extraordinary command over a vast repertoire of orchestral and operatic works. A scarce, boldly signed original program for a performance at Baltimore, Maryland's Lyric Theatre on April 17, 1950, dating to Toscanini's famous transcontinental tour with the N.B.C. Symphony Orchestra. The performance featured works by Rossini, Beethoven and Strauss, as well as Debussy's wonderful "La Mer." The signature is in deep black fountain pen and clearly legible against the dark brown front cover of the booklet, with fair contrast. In good condition, with some age-related spine-wear and creasing at the right corners.
