VINTAGE ~ MATISSE ~ ** COPPER & RED ENAMEL ** ABSTRACT BUG EARRINGS ~ NO RESERVE ~ ITEM: Vintage Matisse Copper & Red Enamel Earrings SIZE: Earrings measure: 7/8" in height; 1" in width Please Note: Pictures have been magnified for better viewing. Please refer to measurements above for actual size. Thank you! ITEM DETAILS: I have deemed this earrings the, "Ladybug" earrings. Ever since I first saw them, that is exactly what they reminded me of. Each earring has a red, enameled disc in the middle with a copper circle at the top and a flared wire portion on the bottom. The overall look really does give the illusion of abstract bugs! They are clipback earrings, and the back of each piece is marked with, "Matisse." A very unusual pair of earrings for the Matisse fan! CONDITION: Fair - I am considering the age and use of these items when factoring the condition. As these earrings are likely 45+ years old , I would say they rate in Fair condition for the age. T are surface scratches seen, but nothing that I would consider unusual. The biggest flaw I noted was some minor bending to the flared copper wires over the copper discs. I This seems most evident on the wires that are most exposed to the side. I don't personally feel this detracts from the overall looks; however, it IS t and visible if you're looking for it. I looked at the red enameling under my loupe and -- aside from some soiling -- I do not see any major chips or cracks. It really seems to be the bends on the wires that are the biggest issues with these earrings. With age and use considered, I would still say they rate in Fair condition overall. AGE/ YEAR MADE: Although exact age is unknown, I do believe these earrings are vintage -- likely from the 1950s to early 1960s (The Renoir / Matisse company closed their doors in 1964) Hi, Thanks for stopping by to view this auction.
