LOT 1066 Seller's Estimate: USD 500 - 800 ''Flirtation'', gypsy woman, signed and dated lower right: Max Wieczorek, 19(c)25, signed and dated again and titled verso, oil pastel on board under glass, 55'' H x 39'' W, est: $500/800 Note: This work is possibly a portrait of influential modern dancer Ruth St. Denis (1879-1968) who, along with Isadora Duncan, is considered a founder of Modern dance in America. She was the wife and artistic partner of fellow modern dancer Ted Shawn (1891-1972), the subject of lot 1065. A similar costume can be seen in the Denishawn production of Pas de Quatre or Sevillanos (a dance of old Spain) worn by Denishawn student, choreographer and Time magazine’s ''dancer of the century'' Martha Graham. A portrait of St. Denis by the artist, Max Wieczorek, appears in Ted Shawn’s 1920 book Ruth St. Denis: Pioneer and Prophet. .
