Up for auction is a McIntosh C-20 preamp with wood case. I believe this is the early version. It appears to be all original with no modifications but I can't guarantee this since I am not a vintage expert. The condition cosmetically is good, typical scuff and polish marks that are typical of vintage pieces. There is a small hairline crack on the left side of the face plate that I have tried to capture in a photo, must be on the back side of the glass because it is perfectly smooth when you run your finger over it. Very minor. The pre-amp has Telefunken 12ax7 tubes with the exception of the 12au7's which are made in China, not sure of the brand. The left channel of the amp has some static and playing unclear. I did some tube rolling and confirmed that the problem is 1 or more bad tubes since the problem was eliminated when I "temporarily" replaced the tubes. The other issue is that one channel plays louder than the other when the balance panning is dead center. Not sure what is causing this but I am most certain it can be repaired or adjusted. I had purchased this amp "As Is" with the intent of sending it to AudioClassics for a tuneup but have decided to not follow through. I offer it exactly as I purchased it, "As Is" with no warranty.
