You are offered for bid: A Beautiful MDC Roundhouse CLIMAX Locomotive This is one from a fleet of fourteen Climax steam locomotives designed and constructed by a master modeler. This one has a real wood load in its fuel tender, stainless steel hand rails, green roof, balloon smoke stack, steel and brass colored accents, couplers front and rear, with its Engineer waving from the cab. I'll send the sitting Firemand holding a log shown in the photo. This is a good runner with a new body mounted on a Mehano chassis. It’s been given an expert paint job. It’s ready to be further decorated if the new owner desires. Just Google “climax” images to get some good ideas. PLEASE READ The original MDC Climax chassis leaves a lot to be desired, and usually requires a lot of work to get them to run well. The problem is with the gear train design with a large bull gear in the center of the chassis that results in severe “kinks” in the drive train to the trucks on any curve. Also, the trucks are mounted on sideways slider/flop guides and allowed to pivot around the U-joint to the bull gear. This has been described as, “wonderfully naïve engineering ”. Thus, having an original MDC Climax might be a pleasing idea but… it is seldom fun. That’s why modelers adapt other chassis to accept the Climax body.
