An outstanding campaign group of three comprising Indian Wars Campaign Medal No. 319, Army Philippine Campaign Medal No. 2198, and Army China Campaign Medal No. 141, all verified to Captain Harry McElderry, 13th Company, Philippine Scouts who died of wounds received in action at Talipao on October 13, 1913. Captain McElderry is also entitled to the Military Order of the Dragon, a society medal established by Philippine veterans at the turn of the 20th century (missing). The Philippine Scouts were indigenous troops raised in 1901 to combat Philippine rebel forces led by Aguinaldo. Commanded by white officers, the Scouts were part of the regular US Army until 1947, having served heroically against the Japanese during World War Two. Harry McElderry (1864-1913) saw action in the Indian Wars as a sergeant in the fabled 7th Cavalry. He later served under Adna Chaffee in the 6th Cavalry during the Boxer Rebellion and was commissioned 2nd lieutenant in the 20th Company, Philippine Scouts in June 1901. His Philippine Insurrection Medal, authorized January 1905, lists him a 1st lieutenant. McElderry and another Scout officer were both killed at Talipao while serving under Pershing in the last major action of the Moros Wars and his obituary appeared in the New York Times, October 26, 1913.
