Sutton Hoo is one of the most important acrheological discoveries concerning the Viking age of Europe. The site was discovered in 1939 and contained countless treasures, armor, weapons and an 89 foot Viking ship. It is believed that the helmet found at the site belonged to the Anglo-Saxon King Redwald, who reigned during the 7th century. -The helmet is constructed from 16 gauge steel. -The crown of the helm is double reinforced steel with two steel bands secured by rivets. -The nose guards, eyebrows and mouth are polished brass.
