Fearsome and attractive cylindrical from Japanese Meiji Period Satsuma vase. I do not have extensive Satsuma knowledge so my dating this vase to the 19th century is strictly novice. Vase is in fine condition except it has been used as a lamp base. T are no chips, cracks, or repairs except for the hole in the bottom. Gilding loss is minimal and found only at the top rim and on the sharp upper edge. T is some very fine crazing in Kuan Yin's face and on the undecorated areas. This stunning vase features a total of 21 figural heads of Saints and Scholars with Kuan Yin presiding over all including the great dragon encircling the vase. Vase is tall at 11.75" and 4.5" at the widest. Vase originally was marked with a red cartouche of which only the edges remain. It also retains part of the original import stamp. I also have the stopper from when vase was a lamp and will include if someone wants to make into a lamp again. Personally I preferred to enjoy the vase simply as a vase.I pack well so bid with confidence of safe arrival. Thanks for viewing the auction!Email for additional info.
