MELKY CABRERA "YANKEES RISING STAR" SIGNED 8X10 ORIGINAL PHOTO *** PERFECT GIFT *** RETAIL VALUE $100.00 No one expected the June 6, 2006, game between the Yankees and the Red Sox to be a pitchers' duel, but it was, as Chien-Ming Wang and Sox rookie David Pauley duked it out on the mound. By the top of the eighth the Yankees were clinging to a 2-1 lead, a lead they took courtesy of a bases-loaded walk to Jason Giambi, when Yankees killer Manny Ramirez stepped to the plate against reliever Kyle Farnsworth. Ramirez launched a rocket to left, a shot that looked destined to reach the seats, but Melky Cabrera, the 21-year-old rookie who had replaced the injured Hideki Matsui in left field, tracked the ball the down, jumped high against the fence and snatched the ball from the air, robbing an expletive-muttering Ramirez of a game-tying home run, turning centerfielder Johnny Damon into a one-man cheering section and sending the fans at sold-out Yankee Stadium into a frenzy that resulted in a rare curtain call for a defensive play. The Yankees went on to win the game 2-1, and Cabrera's grab is already considered as memorable a part of the storied Yankees-Red Sox rivalry as Derek Jeter's famous diving catch and Aaron Boone's extra-inning home run. Melky Cabrera has hand signed this 8x10 photograph of him making his extraordinary play. read more
