Memorial (Death) Plaque named "Archie Bray" together with his 1914/15 Star named "14146 Pte. A. Bray Worc. R." Archie Bray was born circa 1896 in Malvern, Worcestershire the son of George and Ellen Bray of Church Cottage, Cowleigh Road, Malvern. The Malvern News reported on the 20th April 1918 - "Pte. Archibald Bray reported missing on the 25th January 1917 is now presumed killed. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Bray of Church Cottage, Cowleigh Road. He volunteered at the outbreak of war". The 1901 Census shows - He had three older sisters - Ruby, Mabel and Adelaide and one younger brother, Gordon. His Medal Index Card shows that the Theatre of War that he served in was 2B Balkans (Gallipoli) and that he arrived there on the 4th July 1915 most probably with the 9th Worcester's although the regimental history states that the battalion actually landed there on the 24th July. The battalion served in Gallipoli until the 20th December 1915, although some members remained as part of the rear-guard until 8th January 1916. The battalion then proceeded to Mesopotamia via Egypt. Private Bray was Killed-in-Action during the Battle of Kut-Al-Amara on the 25th January 1917. This action cost the 9th Worcester's 107 men killed with 35 missing and 158 wounded.
