MEN VTG DOBBS FIFTH AVE GAY PRINCE FUR FELT FEDORA HATThis is a very nice classic fur felt fedora dress hat in great vintage condition. According to the Dobbs ad “The “Gay Prince” a town or country hat with all the swashbuckling character that it’s name implies.” The hat comes with a Lee hat box to help protect the hat during storage, the box has normal wear and tear and probably a crack or tear, but will protect the hat during storage. BEAUTIFUL VINTAGE HAT. Brim – 2 7/8 inch wide snap Crown – 5 3/4 open crown, 4 3/4 inches with diamond crown bash. Ribbon – 7/8 inch wide felt Size – tagged 7, opening measures 7 5/8 x 6 1/8, measures approx 21 7/8 inches around the inside of the sweatband Up for auction is a vintage 1940's - 1950's men’s fur felt Fedora by “Dobbs Fifth Avenue, Gay Prince” , in a tagged size 7, the color is brown with the same colored felt 7/8 inch wide hatband with decorative saddle or whip stitching around the top edge, with a brown and red feather tucked into the band. The sweatband is still soft and pliable, free of any crack or tears with very minimal signs of wear. On one side of the sweatband in gold lettering is “Dobbs, Gay Prince”, along with the original owners initials “WSJ” , and on the opposite side is “Heyward Mahon Co, Greenville , S.C. ”. The satin liner does show some signs of use and is creamy white with some minor wear stains and age spotting, in the crown is “Dobbs Fifth Avenue” , the oilskin or plastic liner at the top of the crown is free of any tears or holes. The crown is about 5 3/4 inches tall when open and about 4 3/4 inches tall when creased with a diamond crown. The hat can be worn with or without a pinch front and the snap brim is 2 7/8 inches wide with the same decorative saddle or whip stitching as the hatband has and can be worn flipped up or down. All of the decorative stitching around the hat band and the brim edge are in excellent shape without any breaks.The felt is soft and smooth, and there is NO moth damage. There are NO holes or tears. There is one spot visible in the picture on the top of the brim close to the feather where it looks like the felt is scuffed, this may come out with a good brushing. As with most vintage hats this hat could use a good cleaning and re blocking.
