Offered here is a vintage original 6.5 x 8.25 in. paper stock photograph from the one-reel silent film production of William Shakespeare's THE MERCHANT OF VENICE , released in 1908 by the Vitagraph Corporation of America and directed by one of its two co-founders, J. Stuart Blackton .The image depicts and "exterior" long shot in Venice along one of the many canals as an older man who is wearing a mask lies unconscious in a gondola as a younger man in the gondola looks at him while a man along the water's edge tries to restrain the crowd of onlookers. Printed on a thick paper stock with a matte finish, this vintage original photograph is in very fine+ condition. The top inch has been affixed to a piece of cream card stock and it can be lifted up from the card stock to see the verso. The image quality is especially sharp with fine detail and very nice rich contrast. This is a very rare original photograph from a pre-1910 one-reel silent film by a major American studio. This film featured Julia Swayne Gordon (Portia), William V. Ranous (Shylock), Florence Turner (Jessica) and Maurice read more
