First American in space for over a day - GORDON COOPER - FAITH 7 ! Gordon Cooper : 1927 - 2004. Prior to his death, I the opportunity to meet and talk with Gordon Cooper - very quiet and reserved in his old age. This patch is RARE !! Last American to fly into space solo and orbit - 22 ORBITS (since then many American X-15 pilots and the pilots of SpaceShipOne have flown past the 100km "space" plateau and returned to earth without orbiting). This RARE MERCURY FAITH 7 Gordon Cooper PATCH was purchased at CAPE CANAVERAL in the mid 60's - by me when I was a student!!! Yes - I have had this patch all these years in storage and just found it . Though no Faith 7 patch was prepared at the time Gordon Cooper's flight - a short time later, this particular patch was acknowledged by NASA as the official 3" size NASA patch for the Cooper flight - FAITH 7 !! The flight was lauched May 15, 1963 at 13:04. The flight had a duration of: 1 day - 1 hour - 19 minutes - 49 seconds. Rare opportunity at a decent price.
