Following a change of modelling scale (to 1/32) due to ageing eyesight, I'm now reluctantly selling off some surplus 1/48 and 1/72 aircraft kits and bits from my kitstore to fund the purchase of bigger ones that have parts I can see without a magnifying glass. This one is the old Merit 1/48 kit of the Avro 504K, the WWI RFC/RAF standard trainer. The kits in this series - many of them being rehashes of even older Aurora models - were rather crude by today's standards and of variable quality in terms of accuracy, but the 504 looks reasonable in outline when checked against the scale plan (origin unknown) of the 504K and 504N that is included in this sale as a bonus, so with care and patience it could be made up into a decent representation of the real thing. Also included in the sale is a short article on the 504K cut out from a modelling magazine back issue (probably Airfix Magazine).Collectors should note that all kits parts are present (though many have come off their sprues - I have bagged them separately) as is the instructions sheet and decal sheet, though the carrier film on this has yellowed with age. The box is in good condition.I've three or four more Merit kits to sell, so if you're a collector of them, keep watching this space!
