MESOSAUR FOSSIL PERMIAN !!! BRAZIL !!! Mesosaurs ("middle lizards") were an order of small marine reptile that lived during the Early Permian Period, roughly 320 to 280 million years ago!!!!! Mesosaurs were the first aquatic reptiles, having returned to a watery way of life after evolving on land. Many Thanks to WIKIPEDIA The most well-known mesosaur is Mesosaurus itself. Fossils of the animal were found in Namibia, Africa and parts of South America, such as Brazil, Uruguay, and Paraguay. The widespread distribution of the fossil - particularly in those areas of Africa and South America which, when viewed on a map of the Earth, appear to 'interlock" - helped to reinforce the idea of Continental drift. This very RARE and LARGE SPECIMEN fractured (normal) while being excavated and I have very securely backed it and stabilized this piece. It is simply wonderful and all she needs is a little attention. The missing bones can easily be made with a Polymer (if you contact the Black Hills Institute of Geological Research ...they have the polymer clays, at a very fair price (around $20) (this is an easy "fix" and this is a ... MUSEUM PIECE PLATE measures: 23-1/2" Long and 6" Tall ...This is a BIG ONE !!! (I simply don't have the time right now, and want someone else to have the opportunity to enjoy this great fossil ).
