Messerschmidt, Willy. (1898 – 1978) German aircraft designer and manufacturer. The Bf 109 designed in 1934 by Messerschmidt, with Walter Rethel, became the most important fighter in the German Luftwaffe. Messerschmitt`s Bf 209, held the world speed record for propeller-driven aircraft for decades. Photograph Signed in blue ink below the wing of the plane, 11¾x15¾`, n.p., n.d. Fine. The plane that is pictured is an experimental, rocket-driven plane that was tested toward the end of World War II.
