t i g e r 3 0 8 5 2 Nantan meteorite. Witnessed fall in China in 1516 A.D. 119 grams. Description: Intact meteorite from the Nantan meteorite shower which which was witnessed falling in Guangxi-Zhuang province in China in 1516 A.D. "During summertime in May of Jiajing 11th year, stars fell from the northwest direction, five to six fold long, waving like snakes and dragons. They were as bright as lightning and disappeared in seconds." Size: Size as shown on the measure in the picture. Small scale is centimetres, large scale is inches. Weight 119 grams. Condition: Ex fossil dealers stock from the 1990s, originally purchased at the famous Tucson fossil and mineral show. In 'as found' conditionwith the original patina as shown in the photograph. Notes on the Nantan meteorites. Iron meteorites belonging to the main group (MG) of the IAB complex. Composition is Nickel-iron (kamasite or alpha-iron which typically contains 5-7% nickel). Estimated total size of the finds is around eight metric tonnes with the find area an eight kilometer wide cone extending for circa twenty-five kilometres. The find was un-noted in modern times until 1958 when local farmers discovered that what they thought was iron ore would not melt in their furnaces.
