METEORITE CANYON DIABLO METEOR CRATER ARIZONA 106 GRAMS UNUSUAL GIFT PRESENT Meteorite Canyon Diablo. Unusual gift idea or great collectors item. This is a genuine Meteorite found at the Canyon Diablo Meteor Crater, Coconino County, Arizona, U.S.A. This one weighs in at 106 grams and is approx 40mm x 35mm x 23mm. I include a free laminated display/info/authentication card and suitable sized display box from those shown. Not sure of the History? As with most things today, you will find loads on the internet but briefly, Meteor Crater is the largest and most famous crater in the United States, and indeed the world. The meteor probably fell about 20,000 to 40,000 years ago and the crater is about 3400 feet across, 600 feet from rim to floor, the rim rising some 200 feet above the surrounding ground. Much of the mass was vaporised on impact, the remaining mass being blasted into pieces and strewn for many miles. Specimens taken from it are classed as Coarse Octahedrite Iron Meteorites. Their main mineral content is Kamacite and Taenite. Recently the area was closed to meteorite hunters who had found a significant number of specimens with metal detectors. So here you have a wonderful Meteorite with a known history and from the most famous crater ever. Own a real piece of Earth history.
