During his 19-year big league career, Carter was named to 11 All-Star squads, won three Gold Glove Awards, and sipped champagne following the classic 1986 World Series. Now he has been awarded the National Pastime's greatest honor - election to the National Baseball Hall of Fame .Carter worked his way up the Expos' minor league ladder, playing catcher, outfield, first and third base. Just two years after being drafted, he was in "The Show." His abundant raw talent helped him make the big league club for good in 1975. As a catcher-outfielder, the right-handed slugger was named to his first All-Star team and finished the campaign with a .270 batting average, 17 home runs, and 68 RBI in 144 games. He was named The Sporting News National League Rookie of the Year. Carter had blossomed into one of those rare catchers who could excel both offensively and defensively.
