Mexican Revolution Real Photo PostcardThe caption top center reads: Oficiales y Tropa Felicista en La Ciudadela, which translates to Felicista Officers and Troops in The Citadel.The caption continues: Mexico, Feb. 18 - 1913, H. J. Gutierrez Foto.H. J. Gutierrez is for Heliodoro Juan Gutiérrez.The Ten Tragic Days was a series of events that took place in Mexico City between February 9 and February 19, 1913.The postcard is warped and curled some. There is a truly evident amount of darkening and discoloration. The backside is dirtied. The top two corners each have a single tiny pinhole. The bottom corners each have a few tiny pinholes. The corners are rounded and beaten up some. On the lower edge of the front, beneath the butt of a rifle, there is a faint pencil mark that looks to be a faded number 5.The back has an approximate 2-1/2" area of paper residue attached to the surface, likely from the item being removed from a scrapbook or something of that sort (has the appearance of a surface tear). You can also recognize on the back that the corners have some discolored shadows, another sign that the photo spent some time in an album.This real photo postcard comes from the Theodore Strothman collection. I have more of his postcards listed this week.Additional information about Strothman:I don't know a lot about Strothman. If you need details on how I came about the following information, please ask. After looking through his collection, I think he enlisted in the navy in 1909. In 1911, he was apparently on the U.S.S. Colorado, Musician 2nd Class (band), in San Diego and San Francisco. He was also a photographer. Many of the photos that he took in Mexico or owned from Mexico are dated 1913. In 1914, he was receiving mail at home in central Indiana. So to the best of my knowledge, he enlisted in 1909 (possibly 11/27/09) and served until at least mid to late 1913 (maybe into early 1914).I also googled him. I think his full name was Theodore John Strothman. He was possibly born in 1887, and he lived in several locations throughout central Indiana, including Richmond. I found his enlistment date from the archives. He married Hazel M Flinn. His son, Glenn, died in WWII 1943.oooI am not an expert. I know very little about the Mexican Revolution. I have a slight understanding of the Ten Tragic Days in 1913, the happenings before, during and after, and I think I understand the Tampico Affair and the eventual Veracruz occupation in 1914. But with regard to specific political and military figures, or to the exact time line of events directly affecting any specific location, I am rather ignorant. You all know so much more about these postcards than I do.Please help me out by closely reviewing the provided photos to best judge what you are bidding on.
