Talavera Castillo is a company committed to integrate concepts such as art, team work and quality which lead them to become one of the Talavera producers of this time. Talavera Background T alavera pottery is the Mexican variation of the Spanish majolica ware originally produced in Talavera de la Reina and other Spanish cities. Spanish majolica was derived from Italian Renaissance Majolica, with Moorish, Islamic, and Far Eastern influences. The craft was brought to Mexico immediately following the Conquest (1500's) when the Spanish settled the city of Puebla. This very beautiful glazed pottery was originally produced in Puebla only by Spanish artisans under strict guild control. Glazing had been unknown in pre-Hispanic Mexico.
