The Mexican Revolution, which lasted from 1910 to 1920 saw the establichment of the United States of Mexico. As pat of this new country, a new Un Peso, commonly referred to as the "Cap and Ray" Peso, began minting in 1918. By 1920 the value of the silver in the new Peso was greater than the value of the Peso iteslf, so the silver content was dropped to 0.720 (a total 0.3856 troy ounces of silver per coin) where it stayed until the series ended in 1945. The new Pesos could be distinguished from the 1918 and 1919 Pesos by the addition of a 0.7 and 20 on either side of the eagles head, which denoted the reduction in silver content.Up for auction is a complete date set of the 0.720 Cap and Ray Pesos. There are 17 coins total, one from each of the years that they were minted: 1920, 1921, 1922, 1923, 1924, 1925, 1926, 1927, 1932, 1933, 1934, 1935, 1938, 1940, 1943, 1944, and 1945.
