This is a wonderful hand colored map of Paris, produced by Michelin in 1853. Map shows all the various gun emplacements surrounding the city, with the effective range of each one. Since the language is English, could this have been commissioned by the British in case of war with the new regime of Napoleon III, nephew of the great Napoleon Bonaparte? Napoleon III had come to power one year earlier so this could have been created in case war broke out. I have no idea of the background of this piece but it could be very significant and historically important. It is a beautiful piece either way! Map is matted and framed, and ready to hang on your wall. Overall size is of frame is approximately 22.5" X 27". I will take great care to pack and ship this piece in great condition. This would make a great Christmas present for the Historian in your life (even if it's you!).
