Presented for the collector and especially the restorer of antique Mills slot machines is this accessory which is a solution to the most commonly encountered issue in restoring antique Mills slot machines: the lock and key. The lock and key are in untouched, uncleaned, as found condition and are probably new, old stock items as I don't see any evidence of mounting. There is a a very light patina on this one with some minor spotting around the edges. This one differs slightly from the other one I have listed as there are only the two crimped/swaged portions securing it to the lock plate. Please see my other auction and compare the two. Nevertheless, it is an original Mills product. I had two other variant locks listed last week. Please see my other auction featuring the other Mills lock. The Mills slot machine lock is located at the top of the reverse panel on a lot of the models and controls access to the interior of the machine itself and the all-important coin box. Since the slot machines sat with their backs facing a wall, one had to move the machine around to access the lock. Let us say one forgets the key or keeps it in the lock if the machine is used in a home entertainment setting. How many times has a key been broken off when repositioning the machine? The aggregate total of incidents that occurred over the years as described above probably number in the hundreds if not thousands. Unfortunately, you can't write Mills for a replacement key or lock. Thus, finding "new, old stock" material such as this is necessary for the serious restorer. Anything else is a make do. The key and lock have the matching serial number of "E 16702." The lock and key work perfectly. The lock plate itself measures 2 inches in width by 1 9/16 inches in height. This one is stamped with the aforementioned serial number and "PATENT PENDING MILLS NOVELTY CO. CHICAGO" on the lock plate. The key on this one is slightly different than the other having "MILLS NOVELTY CO. CHICAGO" on one side and the serial number of "E 16702" stamped above "PATENT PENDING" on the other side. This is an absolute must if your slot machine lock is damaged or missing the key and you want to bring it back to factory specifications! NO RESERVE!
