Milton AVERY: Mexico, Dore Ashton Borgenicht Gallery 83 Description Milton Avery: Mexico Introduction by Sally M. Avery Essay by Dore Ashton Grace Borgenicht Gallery New York, NY 1983 1st Edition This vintage oblong shaped softcover catalogue with stiff wraps was published on the occasion of the above exhibition of a series of important paintings and watercolors Milton Avery did while he and his family summered in Mexico. Avery had a famously happy and fulfilling marriage; indeed, Sally, his devoted widow, writes in the introduction about their "glorious vacation" in Mexico, that inspired all of these works. This volume measures 11 x 9 inches and features 14 superb full page color reproductions and 6 smaller black and white ones. There are approx. 32 pages (unpaginated). At the end is a Checklist of all of the works in the exhibition, including paintings and watercolors. The essay was written by renowned art historian Dore Ashton, and there is also a black and white photographic portrait of the artist. Other than minor shelfwear, and most notably a 1 square inch area to the top right cover where a price sticker was peeled, the catalogue is in very good condition, and the inside pages are clean and fresh and crisp. NOT ex-library; NO markings whatsoever. An interesting vintage reference on the work of this important American artist, read more
