Sixty years ago, a woman was doing university-level geological work for Mexico for a three-month stint. As partial payment, she accepted several hundred rough stones containing Mexican fire opal being mined nearby at that time. They have sat in a dark garage in jars of water all this time, and have only come out of their respective jars for this auction listing. Each auction lot is being kept bagged in water until they are sold. Now 95 years old, she is settling portions of her estate and has asked one of her children to sell her treasured opals. We will be offering multiple lots of these gemstones, and we'll do our best to answer any questions you may have. Pictures are of the actual specimens you will receive: this auction is for 10 rough mined stones, with a gross weight of 2.8 ounces or roughly 397 carats. We aren't experts in this field, but we've done our best to show the most colorful and representative faces of what you will be receiving. This lot has a wide spectrum of hues from an opaque white to fiery greens, blues and golds. We will ship this lot to the winning bidder via USPS Priority Mail with tracking and insurance. Please specify in a note to us at checkout how you wish them shipped/sealed for you--in water, double-bagged and sealed in plastic, etc. International winners would need to receive dry shipments.
