Miniature Book of Hours Inttegral reproduction of the manuscript in it's orginal format (6.7 X 9.1 cm) 480 pages. Reproduction from the 16th Century The Vatican Library Vat. Ross. 94 Edition N LVI Dating from the start of the 16th century, Flanders. Certain stylistic traits suggest it came from the atelier of the famous illuminator, Gerard Horenbout of Ghent. Integral reproduction of the manuscript in its orginal format. Comes in a Beautiful box and book cover is leather. The book of hours was, from the 14th to the 16th centuries, the prayerbook that the pious laity used during meditative hours of the day. Only nobles and rich merchants could afford to order such books as were hand-written and illuminated by leading artists. Miniature books of hours were even more uncommon and were reserved for artistic enjoyment as well as religious use. Their decoration included numerous superb illuminations. Vat. Ross. 94 is distinctive not only for its remarkable beauty and the rich detail of its ornamention, but also for its tiny format. It has 80 portraits and 15 plates of miniatures edged in unpolished gold abd adorned with designs of flowers, fruit, and animals drawn from life.
