A miniature figurine of a hissing Canada goose - Branta canadensis (" Bernache du Canada") The most familiar and widespread goose in North America, the Canada Goose can be found in all kinds of water all across the continent, from the tundra to the Gulf Coast. Some populations have become resident in urban areas, and are now coming into conflict with people. The Canada goose makes several sounds when feeling threatened or when excited. The adult male, also known as a gander, makes a slow low pitched "a honk" sound. The female goose produces higher "hiss" and "hink" sounds. Adults meet and greet each other by producing alternate calls rapidly making it sound like only one of them is talking.
