Up for auction is a tiny, miniature, Turkish male Whirling Dervish ceremonial cultural and spiritual dancer dressed in his full Dervish costume and Dervish dancers are members of the Mevlevi Order of Islam. The best known characteristic of a Whirling Dervish is the spinning dance called the Sema ceremony. The Dervishes wear tall hats, jackets, cumber bunts, long white gowns, with full skirts, and elfin black slippers. Seemingly tireless, the dancers can spin and whirl for hours at a time with their arms up in the air. They assume this stance so that they are open to receive the blessings and energy of heaven. Each individual Dervish spins from left to right using his own heart as a pivot point.
