Rare Miniature Dometop Coffee PotPearlware Paint DecoratedStaffordshire England c 1800This is a striking miniature dometop coffee pot, richly hand decorated with brushstroke flowers in cobalt blue with pearlware glaze. The tiny tall teapot stands 5 1/4" tall on a pedestal base with an acorn finial, cinched waist and steam hole. It is hand painted with flowers and embellishment twining round the bodice. A delicious example of late 18th or early 19th century folk art. While numerous antique miniature teapots have survived, miniature dometop coffee pots are far less common. This piece was made in Leeds or the Staffordshire region of England, and is one of the earliest wares intended for children, to use in instructing them in proper table manners or simply to decorate a dollhouse dining table or tea party. Typical of these very early toy dishes, the coffee pot bears no makers mark and the exact maker is unknown. The piece was professionally, invisibly restored by the former owner. It has a replaced handle, repaired spout and lid, well molded and hard to detect. Displays perfectly with no unrepaired chips or cracks. Glaze pooling and other minor typical characteristics of the late eighteenth century making process, adding to the authenticity of this antique toy. This is one of the prettiest and simplest hand decorated motifs we've found. read more
