Up for auction is a beautifully woven little woven sweetgrass and ash Indian sewing basket created by a talented artist from one of the Eastern Woodland Indian tribes from New England. This is a finely woven basket and would have been advertised to hold a tourist lady's buttons or other small notions. The weaver used delicate strands of sweetgrass and very thin ash splints (under 1/8" across!) as weavers. The basket was finished off with narrow-wrapped sweetgrass rims, and be sure to notice the touches of burgundy dye the weaver chose to accent her creation. The lid was finished off with a little ash loop handle. A nice little vintage basket, which makes a beautiful piece for display. This Indian notions basket is a small one, measuring just 3" in diameter at the lid and 2¼" tall with the loop handle adding another quarter inch or so. This beautiful little basket is in just pristine condition. The sweetgrass sides are complete and unfrayed, the handle is still firmly attached, and the rim wraps are all intact. This notions basket displays beautifully and will make a very nice addition to a collection of miniature Indian baskets or sewing notions. Very small and nice!
