DescriptionHere we have what I believe to be a small dinner "gong", with a nautical flavour. As hopefully the photographs will show, it is in great vintage condition. I believe (but am not 100% sure) that the bell is brass. As you can see it was once lacquered most of which has rubbed off. The top of the bell "casing" has an Eastbourne badge VERY solidly attached. I am not sure what it is all about! Maybe from an Eastbourne based boat or pub??Also on the base (as shown in one of the photographs) you can see the slight difference in colour where some sort of label once was.The bell does not have a clapper and is designed to be hit by a mallot (a gong striker thing). At sometime in the past this was lost and is not present. But it can be easily replaced! This would make a superb present for someone who likes cooking and boats!! I also have another one of these up for auction. It is slightly smaller and not so well made, but does have its original mallot! So please have a look!
