This is an original Bark River prototype "Gleneagle Axe", made at Bark River Knife & Tool Co. in Michigan . As you know, Bark River 's President is Mike Stewart, who was President and designer of Blackjack Knives, when Blackjack was in Effingham , Illinois . This is a prototype "Gleneagle Axe"; the axe measures 11" overall, with a 4-7/8" cutting edge. The axe is marked on the left side: " Bark River Knife & Tool/ Escanaba , MI USA ", and, on the right side: "Pre-Production Prototype". The axe has a linen micarta handle and a nickel silver bolster. The finger grooves in the handle make it easy to "choke up" on it for fine cutting. The sheath is tough brown leather with two 3" belt loops. Only six of these prototype Gleaneagle axes were ever made. This pattern axe was put into production, over three years ago, and hasn't been made in the past three years. In an interview with Mike Stewart early in 2008, Mike said: "We put the Gleneagle Axe into production over three years ago; we made no more than six prototypes."
