For sale is this authentic 1998 US MINT CANCELLED COIN DIE used to produce Washington quarters. This die came straight from the Denver mint. This sale includes an official Washington quarter die that was used to press the quarters issued in 1998, one of the quarters pressed, a black felt bag to hold the quarter, and a certificate of authenticity. The die was ground off at the mint so coins could not be illegally manufactured. The certificate of authenticity details exactly what the die was used for, the die’s serial number, the mint where it produced coins, the date it was put into use, how many strikes this specific die made, and the die’s retirement date. This die struck 234,670 coins before it was retired on 3/17/1998. The reason the die was retired was "Piece out engraving". The die's condition is fair, with some light surface rust spots on the sided as can be seen in the pictures. This is a great piece of history and is an exciting item for any coin enthusiast. It would also make a great and unusual gift.
