For auction is a Original MINT WWII Japanese Army Officer's Sword in type 98 mountings with a Family Mon! The Mon identifies which family the sword belonged to and according to my research this sword belonged to the Otani, Yoshitsuga or Zakoji family. For the most part Mon's are generally not found on these Army swords so the fact that it has one makes this sword more of a Rarity. The tang is signed on both sides: Kiyo Shige & Sho Wa Ju Hachi Nen Ju Gatsu. "Kiyoshige" is the maker and the other side reads: Showa (period starting 1925), Ju (10), Hachi (8), so 18th year (Nen), of Showa. Meaning the 10th month of 1943. The blade is traditional hand forged, water tempered blade, in old full polish, no rust, no stains and in excellent condition. The temper line is Suguha (straight) and the blade has a gorgeous mirror like appearance. There are no bends, no nicks, no cracks, and the cutting edge is sharp. Possibly listed in the sword references as Hawley KIY476 or G & F #143(list #537). It would be hard to find a WWII Japanese Officer's Sword in better condition. This sword looks as if it just came from the factory! Truely Collector's Grade Condition! The type 98 mounts are very well made (matching #'s "11") and fit very nice and tight and this sword is all original and NOT a put together sword. This sword was probably never carried as read more
