Rare Miniature Historical Childs Dinner Set 2pc TureenQUEEN OF SHEBAMinton Staffordshire England c.1830This is a very scarce dark blue historical toy covered vegetable tureen c. 1830, originally part of the complete dollhouse miniature dinner service. The tiny square bowl measures 3 3/4" across and 2 1/4" tall with a squash blossom finial, impeccably potted and finely transfer printed with pearlware glaze.According to Coysh and Henrywood, this tiny piece of Chinoiserie, with elements of gothic and classical design, depicts a Queen escorted by a servant holding a parasol and 2 children holding her train. Doris Lechler, in her book 'English Toy China', attributes the pattern to Spode. According to the Transferware Collectors Club and others, it would have been made by Minton. It dates to 1820-1830. Like all known pieces in this pattern, this diminutive plate is unmarked. The quality of the form and detailing of the image is far superior to what would be expected on this diminutive sized piece.The tureen is in fair condition. The lid has no cracks, chips, or repairs. The base has a crack, though still all in one piece as shown in the photos. Discolored base, edge wear, consistent with age and prior use. Minor firing imperfections on back side only -- glaze pops, ponding -- original to the making. A nice example of an extremely rare
