Being offered is a very rare 1920's era - 4 ½" tall 8 ½" wide (from end to end of the handles) "large" silver plate very ornate handled ice bucket for the Missouri Hotel that was located in Jefferson City, Missouri. The Missouri Hotel, was an impressive 6-story structure that was built in the 1920's in the downtown area of Jefferson City. The hotel advertised as "One of the finest appointed hotels in the Middle West, with service unsurpassed". The hotel had it's own Coffee Shop, which it's entrance was to the side of the hotel and I believe was open late hours. The hotel also set on the side of a hill, which part of it's basement was exposed and gave it quite the grandeur appearance. The hotel, in 1929, was under the operation of the Sweet Hotel Co., which John S. Sweet was the President and Walter B. Simpson, M.D., as it's manager. Sweet Hotels operated the following hotels: Hotel Bothwell in Sedalia Missouri, Hotel Tiger in Columbia Missouri, Hotel Missouri in Jefferson City MO, Hotel Capital in Topeka Kansas, Hotel Atchison in Atchison Kansas, Tioga Inn in Chanute KS, Hotel Osage in Arkansas City Kansas, and the Hotel Kansas in Topeka Kansas. The ice bucket would have been used in the hotel's dining rooms, coffee shop, or for room service, in connection with ice for room, champagne, or wine. It would have been used in connection with the hotel's china for table settings. It was distributed by the Albert Pick & Co. and has their Bridgeport Connecticut backstamp and is nickel silver / silver soldered. It is marked in large bold letters on the bottom "MISSOURI HOTEL". This is not a souvenir; rather, this is the heavyweight type Railroad, Steamship, and Lunch Counter Type Silver Plate. The bucket looks great, but does have some corrosion to the inside, some overall pitting, etc. The top of the bucket has a most outstanding small bead upper mount that really adds to it's appearance. Hotel ice buckets are very rare and hard to find. During the era that this ice bucket was made and used, persons arriving in Jefferson City to stay at the hotel would have primarily arrived by the Chicago & Alton, Missouri Kansas & Texas (MKT), or the Missouri Pacific Railroads. Riverboat steamers were still in operation on the Missouri River also, but just not as plentiful as they were in the early part of the 20th Century. A wonderful addition to your Hotel Silverplate, or Albert Pick collection and it is ready to display. As a geographical note, Jefferson City is located near Holts Summit, Hartsburg, Centertown, Brazito, Wardsville, Toas, Loose Creek, Wainwright, Tebbetts, Chamois, Henley, St. Thomas, Mary's Home, Capps, Hickory Hill, Etterville, Russellville, California, Marion, Clarksburg, and is South of Columbia and West of St. Louis. The digital images do not show the pickle form silver item that well. The actual item looks much better than what the digital images shows it as. Buyer to prepay item along with $8.95 which includes shipping, packing, and handling in the United States. Insurance is required and is the responsibility of the buyer.
