I bought this neat old McClellan Model 1904 Cavalry Saddle from an elderly hotel clerk who lived and worked in El Paso Texas for many years (and he only used on sundays going to church). The gentleman stated that it had been in his family since the "border trouble" and had been purchased from the US government by his Grandfather who used it while a member of Pershing's Punitive Expedition. The saddle appears to be all t and is in supple, non fragile condition, though it could stand a good saddle soaping. All hardware seems to be present, it has the brass medallion marked 12 Inch seat. I tried to photograph all detail and to my untrained eye the only flaws worthy of mention are; a couple of areas of open seams and most of the sheepskin bottom is missing from one side though mostly t on the other. I find no obvious markings though I might be more sucessful if I was not too lazy to give it a good cleaning and going over - I'm not so inclined and have strict orders to "get rid of it"! Please ask questions or for photos of desired detail. My reserve is my cost, please give this venerable old trooper a new home. I erroneously described this as a Cavalry saddle; it is, in fact, an Artillery saddle as evidenced by the "D" rings at the cantle and pommel ends.
